States can choose to have some positions elected, or not. But part of the democratic backsliding we see in many states is aggressive Republican abuse of legislative power to remove other elected officials or nullify their powers. You don’t have to like Kim Gardener or her politics to deplore this outcome. You simply have to accept that citizens get to elect the officials of their choice, who can be removed for misconduct, but not shoved out the back door by minoritarian rule kooks.Permalink On twitter.com
